Pay-as-you-go auto insurance comes to Atlantic Canada

December 1, 2020 – Halifax, N.S. – Consumers are always looking for a way to save, particularly on those bills that keep coming – like car insurance.

CAA has a new program that’s ideal for those who drive less than 9,000 kilometres per year. Whether you work from home, are driving less due to COVID-19, or are simply a low-mileage driver, CAA MyPace™ may save you a lot of money.

It’s Canada’s only pay-as-you-go auto insurance payment program, and it’s now available to consumers in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and soon on Prince Edward Island.

“We’re always looking for ways to save Atlantic Canadians money and give them more control,” said Gary Howard, senior vice president, CAA Atlantic. “This is the most innovative offering in the auto insurance industry in a very long time.”

The program is helping modernize insurance in Canada by giving motorists the power to control their auto insurance costs based on how much they drive..

It was first launched in Ontario in May 2018 by CAA Insurance Company. In addition to Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, CAA MyPace will be available to PEI drivers on February 15, 2021.

CAA MyPace is simple and easy to use:

  • Drivers enroll as they would with any other CAA Insurance policy.
  • A telematics device is plugged into the vehicle and connects to a mobile app or web portal allowing motorists to track how much they are driving and pay for auto insurance based on that mileage.
  • Motorists start with a base rate and are charged in 1,000-kilometre increments, which are reloaded automatically.
  • Customers receive a notification to let them know when they are close to the end of a 1,000-kilometre increment, making it easy to monitor usage.

Consumers in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia can now get a quote for CAA MyPace through select insurance brokers, or by visiting www.caamypace.com, by calling 1-877-552-5717 or visiting a CAA retail store.
