Older adults represent the fastest growing portion of the driving population, with roughly 2.7 million drivers over the age of 65 on Canadian roads today. To help older drivers find a better fit with their cars for comfort and safety, mobility experts are hosting a safety program designed to help older drivers and their families. The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) in partnership with Canadian Automobile Association (CAA Atlantic) have worked together to bring CarFit to Canada. The program was initially developed by AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association.

On May 7, 27 individuals were trained to become CarFit Technicians and Event Coordinators during CAOT’s annual conference in Fredericton, N.B. Eighteen CAA Members participated in a CarFit event that afternoon to measure their person-to-vehicle fit, including: correct position of driver’s seat, ability to easily reach pedals and proper adjustment of mirrors.
